| Who Are We?
What is ABATE? Wayne County ABATE is part of ABATE of New York, Inc. We are a motorcycle corporation, not a club. ABATE promotes motorcycle safety, awareness, and education. We are a group of people who share the interest of motorcycling. We do not discriminate, all brands of motorcycles are accepted as are all people. • History of ABATE • Aims and Purposes of ABATE Awareness and Education These words have dual meanings for us. We educate the public on staying aware of motorcycles. Look for motorcycles while you are driving instead of after you run a motorcycle over! Drive Aware. We try to get that message out as often as possible. Awareness and education is also for our members. ABATE keeps our members informed of legislation that we may have to help promote or lobby against. Before the Governor can create a law, someone has to have an idea, then a bill is written, then a number is given to it. Then this idea is put in to a committee of people that could pass this idea on. This idea could eventually become a law. The problem with this is the person that comes up with the idea doesn't have to know details or have personal knowledge to have a bill written. The legislators in the committee or the ones who vote on it on the floor of the Senate of Assembly don't have to know details or personal knowledge. Which means that if it makes sense to them to have a seatbelt on a motorcycle, or to require riders to wear an orange vest they could create such a bill. Those bills could become laws if motorcyclists all over the country didn't watch out and protect the motorcycling lifestyle. That is what we do. We are a Motorcycle Rights Organization. |
