Motorcycle Safety & Awareness Month Tips Obtain a proclamation in your county or city declaring "Safety Month". Start by contacting your county executive or president of the county legislature, and the mayor of your city. Distribute posters of any size around your area depicting a safety message regarding motorcycles. The more posters you can get around with that message along with the ABATE logo the better. Contact your county sheriff's office and ask for accident statistics for motorcycle accidents that happened last year. After the first time, keep your own records so you can compare from year to year, if you can show a decrease after your chapter has started a serious safety campaign so your chapter can claim some credit for it. Try to get on TV or radio with some public service announcements (PSAs). PSAs will usually be broadcast free of charge. Contact your local newspaper, and see if they would do a story on "Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month". Be sure to stress the accident prevention side of safety. Take out an advertisement in your local newspaper. Get motorcycle shops and other businesses to help pay for the ad. In some cases these other businesses will actually pay for the whole thing, while ABATE actually does the set-up. Plan an event for Safety Month, this could be a ride or a press conference or what ever as long as it is within the theme of Safety Month. Do one or do all, but at least do something! |
